Collecting cord blood at birth is painless and harmless to the baby and mother. In fact, most doctors or mid-wives in major clinics and hospitals are already well-versed with this simple procedure.
At Cellsafe, we go the extra mile to ensure our client’s experience of signing up and storing stem cells with us is smooth and hassle-free.
Customers may sign-up at any time during the pregnancy period by calling the Customer Hotline +603-2303 9380 to request for a no-obligation free consultation session with our friendly service consultants.
Upon signing up, a special cord blood collection kit will be provided. Customers will need to provide details of their attending obstetrician or hospital to Cellsafe, so that we can make the necessary arrangements to ensure the people involved are familiar with the cord blood collection process.
Customers will need to bring along the collection kit to the labour room and hand it over to the obstetrician or mid-wife before going into labour.
Simply give Cellsafe’s Customer Hotline +603-2303 9380 a call to arrange for collection and transport.
After The Collection
After the delivery of the newborn baby and successful collection of the cord blood, the doctor or mid-wife will hand back the cord blood collection kit to the baby’s father. Cellsafe’s logistics specialist should arrive shortly at the hospital for pick-up and delivery of the collection kit to the Cellsafe laboratory.
Note: The collection kit contains a special chemical that prevents the cord blood from clotting in room temperature for up to 48 hours.
Processing and Storage
Each of the cord blood unit that reaches Cellsafe is given a unique identifying tag that is tracked by our proprietary computer systems at all times.
Medical Lab Technologists (MLT) who are experienced in blood banking and cryogenic preservation will immediately begin processing the cord blood. The stem cells are separated from other red blood cells and placed in FDA-approved freezing bags. Each FDA-approved freezing bag is clearly marked with your baby’s name, date of birth, date of processing and contents as well as a unique Identifying Number.
The freezing bag is then frozen at a computer-controlled rate to a storage temperature of -196°C. The frozen cord blood stem cells are stored in liquid nitrogen tanks located in a constantly monitored, secure laboratory facility.
Using Your Stored Stem Cells
Using these stored stem cells for treatment is a medical decision that needs to be made by you and your doctor. You should make known to the physician so he/she is aware that your family has preserved cord blood stem cells. Your doctor will determine if stem cell therapy is an appropriate treatment option. If the doctor is interested in pursuing this course of treatment, you will then need to contact us. We will then arrange for the preparation and shipment of the stem cells securely to the qualified medical doctor. A shipping fee may be chargeable for transporting the stem cells to an area outside of our service area.
